Money Advice Plus and Surviving Economic Abuse have teamed up to advise scriptwriters on the economic abuse element of the domestic abuse storyline currently running on Coronation Street.
The character Yasmeens’s abusive husband died in December, but she is still being made to suffer. Many people are trapped in abusive relationships by coersive control and economic abuse. Yasmeen has been told by her bank manager that because she signed loan agreements she is responsible for the debts, even though her husband who benefited from the loans is dead.
